Frequently asked questions.
Where did my chats go?
All your existing chats are still available and unchanged. They've simply been automatically assigned to their own Matter Folders.
Do I need to use matter folders? / Can I still use Alexi the way I used to?
Alexi automatically creates a matter for each chat, so you can continue working as you always have. Organizing chats in Matter Folders is optional.
How do I move a chat into the right matter?
Chats cannot be moved between matters at this time. If a chat was created under the wrong matter, you'll need to start a new chat within the correct one.
How do I move documents to a different matter?
At this time, documents remain in the matter where they were originally uploaded. If a document needs to be used in another matter, you can upload it directly into the correct one.
What happens to workflows I ran before this update?
All workflow outputs remain available in the chats where they were originally run. Nothing has been removed or changed.
What can others see in a shared matter?
Chats remain private. Only documents and saved workflow outputs are visible to everyone on the matter. This ensures users don't unintentionally expose sensitive or incomplete work.
Why are my chats private but documents are shared?
Chats are private by default to maintain confidentiality and reduce noise for other users. Documents belong to the matter, not the individual user, so they are shared with everyone on the file. This mirrors how firms manage traditional matter systems.
How do I add/remove people from a matter?
You can add or remove colleagues from the Matter settings, or contact your firm admin if you don't have access to modify members.
Why did Alexi change to a matter-based layout?
Because legal work is organized by matter. This update reduces duplication, preserves context, improves collaboration, and makes it easier to track progress across a file.
Does this affect billing or user permissions?
No. This update only changes how work is organized in the UI. Permissions and billing remain unchanged.
Can I add a file number to each matter?
Yes. At the top of each matter’s dashboard, beneath the matter name, you can click Set a File Number to assign one.
