What is the difference between a vendor's application for an extension to the closing date of an application for extension time?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Howren v. J. Heathcote & Co. Ltd., 1982 CanLII 761 (BC SC):

In my respectful opinion, Whittall v. Kour is distinguishable from the case at bar. In that case the appellant-vendor had not only requested the extension of time but she had by her conduct recognized the agreement as subsisting after the closing date and had thereby effectively waived strict compliance with the time clause.
