What is the current state of the law on wiretapping in the United States?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Canadian Civil Liberties Association v Canada, 2016 ONSC 4172 (CanLII):

Justice Brandeis wrote those prophetic words in 1927: Olmstead v. United States, 227 U.S. 438 at p. 475. That case determined that wiretapping in the United States by federal agents was not a violation of the Fourth Amendment, a decision that stood until 1967: Katz v. United States, 389 U.S. 347.
