What is the current state of the law on the power of the Court of Appeal in managing litigation?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Fontaine v. Canada (Attorney General), 2016 ONCA 241 (CanLII):

Lord Dyson in Al Rawi v. The Security Service, [2011] UKSC 34, [2012] 1 A.C. 531, at paras. 20-22, observed that, absent statutory regulation, the court has “an untrammelled power to manage litigation in whatever way it considers necessary or expedient in the interests of justice” so long as it does not alter substantive procedural law, such as natural justice.
