In the case of George v. George, [1993] 2 Canadian Native Law Reporter, page 112, Justice Coultas, when considering a division of matrimonial property between Indians who were then members of the British Columbia Indian band, held that a certificate of possession described in section 20(2) is only evidence of an Indian’s right to possession of land in a reserve.
