The previous wording required the officer to have “reasonable and probable grounds” as opposed to the present wording which requires the officer only to have “reasonable grounds”. This change in wording is of little consequence because “reasonable” and “reasonable and probable grounds” are synonymous: Baron v. Canada, 1993 CanLII 154 (SCC), [1993] 1 S.C.R. 416 (SCC).
